This may get moved to off topic, but Sussex Cricket Club are rumoured to be looking at a new ground in the Crawley area.

Seems like an ok idea given the Asian population in the town who im sure would enjoy the cricket more than the football, but exactly where could the ground be built given the problems on land in the town and the "not on my doorstep brigade?"

If there is any truth in that I would say Goffs Park or Southgate playing fields would have to be the favourites.

Why any person could think that a new sporting facility could be anything other than a blessing to any town is beyond me. But then again I don't sit in an armchair bemoaning the state of the town and suggesting that kids are hoodies or they have nothing to do Rolling Eyes

Why would a cricket ground be a bad thing? It would be great for the town, at the moment we have CTFC, and the public faces of that are Chas & Az. Great for tourism.

Well if they are then they are not going to get it. Like the hospital it can't be built on the site they continually say they'd like it on.

That land was given to the Scout Association of Crawley by Ernest Standford in 1955....with a 100 year water tight lease.

It's a point councillors, campaigners and people against turning it into a travellers site continue to overlook.

I was once asked by a CTFC Vice President whether I wanted it to be a hospital or a traveller site...I replied it won't be either and they rolled their eyes.

They tried to get the Scouts to give up their land a couple of years ago on the basis they'd done an anaylsis of the sites usage and found hardly anybody was staying there. And when did they undertake this ground breaking bit of research - in that well known holiday month of November of course Rolling Eyes
