Interested to hear peoples views as to whether we will be able to / or should keep Collins and what transfer fee would be to good to turn down.

He has undoubtedly pretty much kept us up. 20 league goals in a crap team is going something.

Equally we will get offers for him from league one and two clubs.

Ironically I think a club like ours suits him , he is guaranteed games and that helps him gets some form and goals. If he was getting 20 games and cameo sub appearances he isn't the sort of striker to get a lot of goals.

Reality is there will be clubs offering to double his salary next year so how much would we expect ? McLeod was 100k at 32 so maybe 150k for Collins . That's two decent league two players.

Or should we keep him . Very unlikely to be able to find another 20 plus goal front man on our budget.

If we have any ambition at all we have to try and hang onto him. As you say, strikers as consistent as he is are rare to come by at any level, particularly where we're at.

Funny thing... I'm sure I can remember a lot of negative comments herein when it was announced that we had signed him on a three-year contract..(?)

A quick although not thorough search revealed only 3 people who thought it a risk - mainly re the 3 year aspect.

Amusingly, one person thought that with good service he might score 20 goals.
I wonder how many he'd have got with good service?
I really hope he's with us for at least the next season .

Usual suspect(s) BOTN - That was a spin-off from another thread wherein it was announced... the 3 year deal was definitely the talking point.. http://ctfc.net/forum/viewtopi.....p;start=75

And as you have pointed out... good work by the Sulton..

Obviously I'd like him to stay as he's been superb for us this season, player of the season easily. However, there's a good chance he'll be snapped up by another club in the off season transfer window. 20 league goals in a struggling team won't go unnoticed. He's at just the right age as well at 26 in his prime with another 3 or 4 good years left in him at the top of his game. Thankfully he's under contract for a while yet so we should be able to at least get a good fee for him if he were to leave.

Without Collins' goals we would have gone down, the maths is simple.

If we can survive financially without a fee then we keep him.

thank you Thad.

Staying fit has helped but no one can deny the quality of Collins if we lose him i'm not sure where we will find an adequate replacement, however it does seem he is happy here at Crawley

John Akinde has scored 25 goals thus far for Barnet but couldn't hit a barn door for us maybe sometimes a club and or a leaque just suits a player better, Tyrone Barnett was awesome for us but seemed to struggle elsewhere I'm sure there are lot's of others we could name

With two years still left on his deal I'd keep him unless he throws a McLeod like strop.

But even if we do decide to sell him, with a deal like that and his record at this level I'd expect to get a very significant fee for him.

Reality is though we could get three decent players if we sold him. Let's assume he one of the bigger earners and Crawleys top salary is 75 k . a sale at 150 k which wouldn't be unreasonable allows us to bring in three quality players instead of just Collins.

Its tempting I would resign Murphey who has proven he can get goals and look to bring a couple mor decent players in to supplement this squad.

Of course I accept it does scream a lack of genuine ambition and assumes Erin is keeping his hand s in his pockets and there is no increased in playing budget.
