Johnstone Paint as was has a new format. See here..http://www.efl.com/news/articl.....40598.aspx

First thought is that it is a trial to see if the Premier League clubs can persuade (force) league clubs to accept u21 teams in the league in future...but I may be wrong.

Hmmmnn... will they be restricted to only featuring English players... I can recall us getting thumped at home in the FA youth cup by Arsenal a dozen or so years back... and the opposition - even at that level - didn't have too many English players in their side...!

dontknow

So there could be a situation where West Ham U21 V Millwall.....

The FA really do ask for it sometimes.

16 groups of 4 teams. Presumably that means 3 and not 6 games, although then who will get the benefit of 2 home and 1 away?

disaster for lower league clubs potentially we will never see a L1 or L2 team at Wembley for the EFL trophy ever again

The only way to stop it is if every fan boycotts every game

Don't worry cos they'll soon remove ALL replays in the FA Cup when the big clubs complain of fixture congestion... Rolling Eyes

Wembley Stadium, Stoke U21s v Watford U21s. Crowd, 3000.

Perhaps they should schedule it as part of Non League Finals Day, bump the attendance up a bit.

Typical of the higher echelons of English football; look after the rich, sod the rest.

Nice to see that, while so many members of the EFL are struggling to survive financially, the AGM/Jolly was held in Portugal

We lost 9-0 to Arsenal that night, a certain Cesc Fabregas made his Arenal debut- they were a pleasure to watch that evening

I'm undecided about that. It depends on what quality of team the PL clubs put out and how seriously both sides take it. I can remember us thrashing Chelsea kids a few times before.

Personally I still think the final will be between 2 league clubs.

It was very enjoyable in a perverse sort of way, but on the basis of that night you'd have had Anthony Stokes and Quincy Owusu-Abeyie as definite Premier League stars of the future... and neither are English too.

A bit more of a challenge, it may help the lower league clubs improve.

Who are the 16 PL teams ?

I'm guessing the ones who missed out on the Champions League... cos to the footy bigwigs that is the only competition that really matters nowadays... so that excludes Leicester, Arsenal, Spurs & Man City from the 20 Premier clubs...

dontknow
