Even after Chilcott is published.... He still doesn't get it... a stage-managed performance all about HIS DECISION... but he was not King, President or Emperor...
...it was never ever his decision to make... last time I checked the UK was still a Parliamentary Democracy... why is he still unable to see that...!

The scumbag is a war criminal and should be held to account for his actions which, of course, will never happen. We can but hope justice might come his way somewhen in the future and, even if it only ever means that he'll lose his bank balance fighting off the lawyers, I hope he never has a good nights sleep |

The buck has to stop somewhere. Someone needed to take responsibility for the decision and it should be at the top.
Tony Blair has taken the decision to take the rap himself and rightly or wrongly should be applauded for it. He could easily have made it out to be a collective decision but didn't. Good for him. |

Complete crap... he still says he was right..!
He is playing the victim of circumstance now because he has been found out Notso... Chilcott pointed the finger directly at him and spelled out that it was never a collective decision.. the UK was part of the UN, EU, NATO and had it's own parliamentary processes, all of which should have been part of a consultative dialogue..
...and as Prime Minister his responsibility was simply to present the facts without bias and act on the decisions of others... he had no authority to put any slant on anyone else's research or make any single-handed decision.. or to give a commitment prior to that taking place...
..even his own minister for defence was excluded from certain meetings, documents & assurances and had his own doubts dismissed.... Blair should FINALLY take responsibility, because he is responsible..!
I actually think if he had gone to Parliament and told them "The USA plans to invade and I genuinely believe we should be alongside them" and made his case forcefully, he would likely have got it through despite public dissent. But he ignored democracy when it mattered, that was his key failed decision, far more than the one to go to war. |

Yep, Blair is a war criminal, same as the MPs that all voted to go into an illegal war.
Backed by a load of jingoistic idiots in this country with the backing of 99% of the mainstream media.
The evidence was available at the time, funnily enough Corbyn used the evidence as did a few others.
The likes of Scott Ritter, Hans Blix, Denis Halliday and others had spelt the position out very clearly. Think Ritter had two very minor interviews on the British brainwashing corporation "news" but he couldn't be allowed to be saying that too loudly as may have spoilt the chance to wreck a country and earn huge profits rebuilding it. |

That war was about oil. Just as most things are in that in the middle east.
The first targets captured by the US/UK forces were the oil fields. The western world runs on oil. With out it we dont drive our cars amongst other things.
Do we really think that is a way to fight a war with upsetting someone....follow the rules and no one gets hurt??? That is not how war works. |

You're right Sussex Boy insofar as if the entire middle-east had no mineral resources Western Governments wouldn't feel any great need to get involved in their politics.
But the other thing to bear in mind is that most of those nations aren't natural countries. They were created by civil servants from the remains of - mainly - French & British imperial adventures and by & large ignored ethnic & sectarian divisions, cos it suited the likes of the UK and others to have internal opposition and a minority leader dependent on western support in exchange for... you've guessed it... a decent deal on oil.
We can demonise Saddam, Gaddafi, Bashir & their ilk now, but we were happy to deal with them for a long time and didn't particularly care about how they treated the locals. We still don't in the likes of Saudi, Yemen, Kuwait & Bahrain.
For example, there has been talk about Saddam brutally using chemical weapons on the Kurdsish population, but check out who sold him those weapons, who built the plants for him, who gave them intelligence support and who trained them in how to deploy them, you might be surprised at the answers...? |
