In that case I will fight for Belgium and sing the Belgium national anthem because when my teeth and stomach allowed me to eat chips, I loved them with mayonnaise. I would fight for the right of anyone to enjoy this dish and am much for likely to sing the Mayonnaise than the Marseillaise. Does that make me a chiphadist?

I'm with you Musty. Mayonnaise on my chips, and black pepper. None of this tomato flavoured sugar for me.

I have. The Germans were about to take over Verdun. The French were preparing to evacuate the east bank of the river Meuse when the British started the offensive on the Somme. This prevented the Germans from sending more troops to Verdun and led to the Germans calling off the attack.

So- once again, the French were saved by the British.

...and how many French soldiers fought at the Somme....any ideas?!?

Significantly fewer than the British (less than half).

And you know it was a 4 month battle I trust?

C'mon guys... there is no point going over old ground, it is about the choices that today we are all faced with in these troubled times, can we please stick to the actual serious issue here...

...so... is it mayonnaise or ketchup...?

Red Army.

How can so many people on here be getting it so wrong!

Pay attention, all of you...

Did the French hold a one minute silence after 7/7? It's got very little to do with whether there was a football match 4 days after 7/7. One only has to look at the French attitude to the UK with the way they deal with the migrants in Calais. The Brit customs officers catch the illegals and have to hand them over to the French police. The French police escort the illegals off the premises and release them to try again. The French laugh at the British After all, it is France the migrants are trying to leave. Why don't the illegals want to stay in France? We know the answer don't we. The French police even stopped a chief suspect in the recent atrocities AND THEN LET HIM GO.

Xenophobia? Moi? I have never been musical and certainly if I was, a xenophobe would not be my instrument of choice.

Of course it's relevant. How could there be a minute's silence without one?

Attack of the Little Englander here, I'm afraid.

That is the law.

So I participated in a minute's silence on Saturday (County League game) and a minute's silence on Sunday (Youth game). There was a minute's silence on Monday at 11am and there is a minute's silence tonight (England game).

All respects and everything for a terrible situation but do I really also need to sing the French national anthem to demonstrate my respects?

Ketchup.

Or chilli sauce if there is any.

Or cheese and gravy. Yum.

Hate to change the subject but actually impressed with the England performance tonight (written with 20mins to go). Better centre halves, higher pressing, Alli and Kane hunger to play for England is great to see.

Think tonight's performance has to be taken with a pinch of salt (or mayonnaise). France didn't exactly look up for it, understandably.

That said, Alli is going to be some player. He's pretty good already.

Decent performance from us tonight but of course it's hard to rank it given the circumstance.

I thought the real stars were the fans though. Their conduct was explemplary, including clapping French players on and off. A good advert for football.
